National Ambulance Directive

Under a HSE Directive from 2015, if you have a bleeding disorder or are the parent of a child with a bleeding disorder, you can instruct an ambulance to take you directly to one of the four recognised Haemophilia Treatment Centres, provided you are within 60 minutes from the centre:

• St. James’s Hospital Dublin
• Children’s Hospital Ireland at Crumlin in Dublin
• Cork University Hospital
• Galway University Hospital

If you are over 60 minutes from one of the Treatment Centres, please go to your nearest hospital and contact your treatment centre on the way. Here are the contact details:

The National Coagulation Centre (NCC) is St. James’s Hospital
After 5pm and on the weekends, please call 01 410 3000 and ask to speak to the haematologist on call.
Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin
After 5pm and on weekends, please call 01 409 6100 and ask to speak to the haematologist on call.
Cork University Hospital
After 5pm and on weekends, please call 021 454 6400 and ask to speak to the haematologist on call.
Galway University Hospital
After 5pm and on weekends, please call 091 524222 and ask to speak to the haematologist on call.

To help ensure the ambulance crew brings you directly to one of the four treatment centres, please make sure to carry the following items with you:

• Your Bleeding Disorder Alert Card 
• A photo of the card on your phone
• A photo of the Directive on your phone
