The Consultative Council on Hepatitis C was established by the Minister for Health and Children on the 26th of November 1996 by Statutory Instrument, to advise on all matters relating to Hepatitis C. One of the main functions of the Council is the dissemination of information regarding entitlements to certain health services, information on living with Hepatitis C as well as details on all Council activities and events.

The Consultative Council works hard to ensure that all Health Amendment Act (HAA) cardholders are informed as to their entitlements to certain health services and are provided with information on the challenges of living with Hepatitis C. To this end the Council organises events such as the annual Hepatitis C Information Day in Dublin. The day includes a comprehensive programme dealing with issues such as Nutrition and Well-Being to Treatment and Transplantation. The Council also organises an International Hepatitis C Conference every 3 years. The conference includes a multi-strand programme which runs simultaneously, targeting clinicians, lay people living with Hepatitis C, GPs and other health care professionals working in the community.
