SUMMARY:Members’ Zoom meeting On New Product – Altuvoct
DESCRIPTION:The extended half-life Factor VIII concentrate currently used in Ireland is Elocta. However\, in the coming months\, this will be changed to a new enhanced extended half-life Factor VIII from the same company. This new product is called Altuvoct and was licensed by the European Medicines Agency in recent months. Altuvoct will be used by those currently on prophylaxis with Elocta or by those who may wish to consider a switch from Hemlibra. For those on Hemlibra\, treatment for bleeding episodes will continue to be provided by Elocta as there is currently no suitable laboratory assay to measure Altuvoct in those currently treated with Hemlibra. Individual discussions will\, of course\, take place between your haemophilia treatment centre and you prior to the switch. \nWe have arranged a virtual meeting on the Zoom platform which will take place on Thursday 14th November at 7pm to discuss this new treatment with members. SUMMARY:Ageing Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:We are now living in a time where the first generation of people with haemophilia and related bleeding disorders will have to confront the challenges of ageing. Many people with haemophilia and related bleeding disorders can expect to live beyond their 70th or even 80th year. This is very reassuring and a testament to the improvement in comprehensive care\, over the past decades. We are committed to taking a strong role\, on behalf of people with haemophilia and related bleeding disorders\, to ensure that the most effective pathways for monitoring\, diagnosis and treatment for conditions associated with ageing\, are put in place. While no one wants to dwell on the degenerative effects of ageing\, and the problems they may bring\, being prepared can go a long way towards alleviating these challenges. \nWe are pleased to announce that we have organised an ‘Ageing Conference’\, which will take place over the weekend of 17th to 19th May in Meadowlands Hotel\, Tralee\, Co. Kerry. This conference is open to members aged forty years and over who have an inherited bleeding disorder and their spouses or partners. Please note that attendance at this conference is strictly for adults only. All bookings received must be paid for in full\, at the time of booking and a two-night package is the only one available. Please note that there will be no registration on Friday evening at the conference. Depending on your preference ticked on the enclosed booking form\, confirmation letters and the final programme will be posted or emailed to delegates approximately two weeks prior to this event. \nRegistration for this event is now closed.

DESCRIPTION:We wish to announce that our ‘Annual General Meeting & Conference’ will take place over the weekend of the 3rd to 5th March 2023 in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan. Registration packs have been posted out to members. For adults the weekend will kick off with the AGM on Saturday morning. The AGM will be followed by our conference\, which will be filled with many interesting talks. Please see the preliminary programmes below for more information. For children and teenagers\, we have an exciting weekend of activities planned. \nAs there will be no registration or payments desk on the Friday evening of the conference\, you must pay in full at the time of registration. All registration documents will be posted or emailed to members two weeks prior to the conference. If an adult (aged 18 years or over) who is booked in for the conference does not attend at least two sessions on Saturday and one session on Sunday\, they will automatically be charged a full non-member rate at the next conference they attend. Children must attend their age-appropriate programme and are not permitted to attend the adult talks. DESCRIPTION:Our Von Willebrand Disorder Information Day is targeted towards anyone with Von Willebrand Disorder or interested in learning about the disorder. It is a free of charge event. \n \nDr Michelle Lavin\nDr. Michelle Lavin will be the principal speaker at the event. Dr. Lavin is a Consultant Haematologist at the National Coagulation Centre in St. James’s Hospital\, Dublin\, whose research focuses on low Von Willebrand Factor. She is a Co-Chair on the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) VWF Scientific SubCommittee (SSC) and collaborates with the ISTH Women’s Health SSC. \nDr. Lavin is one of the founders of Know Your Flow\, a project which aims to help women recognise if their heavy periods may indicate the presence of a bleeding disorder. \nFurther information to follow.
