H & H In-Patient Unit
The H & H In-Patient Unit in St. James’s Hospital is a state of the art assessment and in-patient unit for people with haemophilia or related bleeding disorders.
Where is the ward located?
The H & H Ward is located in the main hospital on the 1st floor of the Clinical Research Facility.
How to get there
Enter the hospital via the main entrance. Walk past the coffee shop and you will see signs for the H & H Ward along Route 3. Just past the Daffodil Centre, you will come to a set of red doors on your left. Go through the red doors and continue to follow the signs for the H & H Ward. You will come to a large foyer. The lifts are on your right-hand side. The H & H Ward is on the 1st floor. On exiting the lift, there is an intercom buzzer to the right of the ward entrance to gain access.
This is located at the entrance to the H & H Ward. There is a waiting area at the entrance for family members. Nurses from the National Coagulation Centre will be located in the new Assessment Unit.
Hours of Operation
The unit will be open Monday to Friday from 08.30hrs – 17.00hrs.
Please use the underground car park beneath the main hospital entrance. There are lifts available from the car park to the main concourse area of the hospital.
Out of Hours Service: After 17:00hrs, Weekends and Bank Holidays
The nursing staff on the H & H Ward will evaluate patients on arrival and arrange for a prompt medical review. Patients who require emergency assessment should contact the H & H Ward by phone prior to attending (01 410 3132) or via the main hospital switchboard (01 410 3000) and ask for the Haematology SHO on-call.

- Patients who need advice from a nurse please phone the Assessment Unit directly.
- Patients with a bleed who need to speak to a nurse urgently please contact the hospital switch on 01 410 3000 and ask for pager 721.
In order to facilitate diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy and review, we ask patients to attend the Assessment Unit as early in the day as possible.
All Outpatient services currently held in the National Coagulation Centre (NCC) such as outpatient clinics, appointments for blood tests and dental appointments will continue as normal. All queries relating to appointments should be directed to the NCC (Tel: 01 416 2141). All queries for the NCC nurses should go to the Assessment Unit (Tel: 01 410 3129).
